This page sets out a variety of links to radio, TV, and other sights and sounds -- live on the Net.
Internet TV & Radio tuners and links -- and a bit of SWL and DXing. If you don't know what those mean, you don't have to worry about the meaning of QRM, QSL, PLL (Phase-Locked Loop tuning), QST, or '... --- ...'.
Text copied from the Net is in maroon; my text is in black. My highlighting of either is usually in red, or -- for hyperlinks -- in blue. Titles of URLs are verbatim, except that I delete initial redundancies, such as the useless and space-wasting fragment 'Welcome to', or their ilk.

Briefs XM's Losses Sharply Climb: http://dc.internet.com/briefs/article/0,1934,2431_912721,00.html Oct 30, 2001.
Losses for XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. . . . jumped another $70.8 million in the third quarter as one of the Washington, D.C., area's most watched ventures began the regional rollout of its eventual national satellite radio service. . . .
XM has raised more than $1.5 billion in its plan to revolutionize car radio listening habits much like cable fundamentally changed the viewing patterns of television. XM's primary investors include car, radio and satellite TV companies -- General Motors, American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Clear Channel Communications and DIRECTV.
After almost nine years of convincing manufacturers to make digital radio receivers and establishing retail outlets to sell the equipment, launching satellites, building a state-of the-art digital studio, hiring programmers and online talent and designing a $100 million advertising campaign, actual service was finally begun in a splashy September debut.
By the end of September, with the service having been available for only five days in its initial markets of Dallas and San Diego, the company claims to signed up more than 500 customers at $9.99 a month for its 100-channel, coast-to-coast broadcasts. XM hopes to have 50,000 paying subscribers by the end of the year. Analysts predict the company needs 4-5 million subscribers before it can turn a profit. . . .
Critics of XM's concept question the overall demand for the product, skeptical that consumers will spend $300 for the equipment and another $120 a year for the service. If XM is forced to subsidize deep discounting by retailers, its projected breakeven date of 2004 could be pushed even further out.

GM Announces Web Cars: http://devices.internet.com/news/9911/991108gm/991108gm.html
Nov 8, 1999 -- General Motors says its first Web-based car will be available in the United States next year.
GM says the Web car will be based on its OnStar in-car services that currently are available on higher-end vehicles such as the Cadillac. Those services use global positioning systems and wireless technology to link drivers to around the clock help.
In the next year, however, GM said it would expand that system to provide personalized, Web-based information such as news, stock quotes and e-mail. . . . available via voice commands.
GM officials also talked about future Internet-enabled capabilities for its vehicles. For instance, Palm device users will be able to access the OnStar system, such as unlocking doors. Other future capabilities will enable users to download MP3 music files from a home PC and radio available via satellite that will provide access to as many as 100 stations from any place in the U.S. . . .
