On this page I present some test photos that I have taken, just to get used to the camera, and especially its Macro mode.

What more romantic subject could there be than an egg timer on the kitchen counter to test the Macro lens feature of the camera? Our prima donna of a subject here is an egg timer of width 8.7 cm (3--3/8"). The subject distance is the distance from the front rim of the lens housing to the subject. To impute the lens distance from the front of the lens to the subject, add about 0.3 cm. The Zoom mode was not used. All adjustments were left for the camera to make automatically, although the following can be overriden: exposure (EV value), focus, aperature, time exposure, and color temperature (White balance).

For this series, we enabled a mode in which the camera automatically stores two jpg versions of the image in the following sizes:

(a) An e-mail version of 320 x 240 pixels. To see these, scroll down.

(b) A medium-format version, here 640 x 480 pixels. (Largest format possible: 2240 x 1680.) To see these alone, click here.

It is of interest to note that -- even for a fixed choice of image format in terms of chosen number of pixels -- the size of the jpg file in bytes computed by the camera increases with increasing complexity of the subject image. (Mind you, it's not as compressive as fractal image format compression (fic, alias fif) could be -- but what can I say! After all, fif has been kept so proprietary (to Michael Barnsley and his Iterated Systems Inc.) that it is not widely available.)
