Fatbrain.com - Product Info for An Eye for Fractals; A Graphic and Photographic Essay: http://www1.clbooks.com/asp/bookinfo/bookinfo.asp?theisbn=0201554402&from=ESH325 By Michael McGuire, Designed by Benoit B. Mandelbrot. Two-thirds of the pages display {the author's} photographs from nature. I found myself speculating about the fractal dimensions of the structures that caught his artist's eye. Another dozen shots (the only ones in color) show computer-generated images -- his own explorations in collage transformation, along with familiar portraits of the Mandelbrot set. I have a copy, but it is now out of print. It might be available used at: . . .

Mountains and landscapes

Quang-Tuan Luong. Photography: http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~qtluong/photography/index.html I photograph many subjects using a variety of techniques, from mountaineering and travel with 35mm to landscape and portrait with large format cameras. One of several sub-pages is as follows: . . .

. . . The Mountain Gallery: http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~qtluong/gallery/index.html Quang-Tuan Luong . . . . . photographs I made in the mountains of Europe and North America while I was climbing or mountaineering. The Gallery is a portraiture of these activities, as well as of incredibly beautiful places. It features about 350 images, organized in four main sections. Another sub-page is as follows: . . .

. . . Large format landscape photographs: http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~qtluong/landscapes/lf/ Cathedral Rocks, Yosemite NP, Sequoias in storm, Kings Canyon NP, Temples of the Sun and Moon, Capitol Reef NP . . . The exceptional level of image clarity and naturalness of perspective in those photographs is due to my use of a large format camera, in the tradition of the great landscape photographers such as Ansel Adams. There is so much detail that it is like having twenty-five photographs in one! These cameras are made by Keith Canham, a craftman and engineer based in Arizona who assembles himself all the cameras, in various formats up to 20x24. The camera that I own is the 4x5/5x7. At the time of writting of this version, I have shot over two thousand transparencies with the camera. First, because the size of the film is 5x7 inches (12.7cm x 17.8cm), the camera records an amazing amount of detail, 25 times what is contained in a regular 135 (24mm x 36mm) frame. Spectacular!
