ConjurePicture page 42 (ConPic42)

On this page I continue to describe the development of my computer program ConjurePicture (ConjPic for short) for the creation of images using Iterated Function Systems (a branch of Fractal Geometry). As well as showing some of the resulting images, I will show some of the itermediate template images that are used to generate those images.

This page is a continuation of page ConjurePicture, which contains the Table of contents.

Chapter 6: Building a mountain (Continued.)

This picture does not look quite as good as the original, which is a 1,000 x 1,000 pixel picture. It gets stored as a bmp file, then converted to jpg via MGI S/W. Note that the pine tree on the left is just an inexact copy of the one on the right -- a copy of the template (representation of the iterated function system (ifs)), not of the actual image. I then twiddled the template a bit, by changing the angle of the rectangle which will create the branches on the right-hand side of the tree. With fractal geometry, forgery was never easier -- fractal forgery, that is!

As you can see from the above template, it might not be obvious as to how this collection of rectangles can generate the mountain. Furthermore, each plotted point was calculated based on a biased random choice of which rectangle to choose in the iteration. So, although those choices (more than 200,000 of them) are all random, the overall ifs process is not random; it is, instead, chaotic.
