The Christ Conspiracy The Greatest Story Ever Sold: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0932813747/ref=ase_sacredspiral/002-2038243-7307215 by Acharya S.

The Christ Conspiracy marshals an enormous amount of startling evidence that the religion of Christianity and Jesus Christ were created by members of various secret societies, mystery schools and religions in order to unify the Roman Empire under one state religion! This powerful book maintains that these groups drew upon a multitude of myths and rituals that already existed long before the Christian era and reworked them into the story the Christian religion presents today-known to most Westerners as the Bible.

Author Acharya makes the case that there was no actual person named Jesus, but that several characters were rolled into one mythic being inspired by the deities Mithras, . . .

Ethics in the Bible: http://www.users.uniserve.ca/~tfrisen/bbl2.htm An interesting Site by a former minister and missionary Dan Barker. On the topic of ethics in the bible I recommend chapter 50 "Is The Bible A Good moral Guide?" in his book "Losing Faith in Faith".

Farewell to God : http://www.mcclelland.com/releases/farewell.html "Templeton's theological challenges will give the mature Christian something to grapple with." - Globe and Mail

FOR MORE THAN TWENTEY YEARS, Charles Templeton was a major figure in the church in Canada and the United States. However, increasing doubt about the validity of the Old Testament and the teachings of the Christian church finally brought about a crisis in his faith, and in 1957 he resigned from the ministry.

In this book, Templeton speaks out about the reasons for the abandonment of his faith, and, in straightforward and often forceful language, challenges the validity of the central Christian beliefs.

Leaving Christianity: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~slocks/decon.html Over the years I have come to know and know of many ex-Christians most of whom were well-churched, their numbers including former ministers, apologists, missionaries, theologians etc. Why should such people leave Christianity? These people are the best versed in Christianity and yet they leave despite so much personal and professional investment in their religion, enjoyment of their time as believing Christians and social pressures to stay. How can this happen if the evidence for Christianity is so good? If supernatural Christianity is true, shouldn't they have known better? . . .

From our research and testimonies it is apparent that Christianity is not what we once thought it was. Has extensive links.

Freethought: http://www.2think.org/hii/freedom.shtml Includes many essays, book reviews, and the following Statement of Purpose, extracts from which are as follows:

The aim of the Page of Honest Intellectual Inquiry ( http://www.2think.org/hii/mo.shtml ) is to promote and nurture the good life--life guided by reason and science, freed from the dogmas of god and state, inspired in part by compassion for fellow humans and other forms of life, and driven by the ideals of human freedom, happiness, and understanding.

Our best guide to truth is a free and rational, honest inquiry; we should therefore not be bound by the dictates of arbitrary authority, comfortable superstition, stifling tradition, or suffocating orthodoxy. We should defer to no dogma--neither religious nor secular--and never be afraid to ask "How do you know?"

The history of religion is a horror story. If anyone doubts it, just review this chronicle of religion's gore during the last 1,000 years or so. ______ It's fashionable among thinking people to say that religion isn't the real cause of today's strife in Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Northern Ireland, India and Iran -- that sects merely provide labels for combatants. Not so. Religion keeps the groups in hostile camps. Without it, divisions would blur with passing generations; children would adapt to new times, mingle, intermarry, forget ancient wounds. But religion keeps them alien to one another. James A. Haught.

Quotes re Christianity: http://www.omnifarious.org/~eljay/rel_q_xtn.html Why I am not a Christian.

You can cite a hundred references to show that the biblical God is a bloodthirsty tyrant, but if they can dig up two or three verses that say God is love, they will claim that you are taking things out of context! ~ Dan Barker, Losing Faith in Faith.

We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes. ~ Gene Roddenberry.

The Secular Web - infidels.org: http://www.infidels.org/

The Secular Web is published by the Internet Infidels, an educational nonprofit organization of unpaid volunteers dedicated to the growth and maintenance of the most comprehensive freethought web site on the Internet. Our mission is to defend and promote metaphysical naturalism, the view that our natural world is all that there is, a closed system in no need of an explanation and sufficient unto itself. To that end we publish the very best secular books, essays, papers, articles and reviews. We also stand as a bulwark against the forces of superstition, especially the radical religious right, whose proponents would have us fear knowledge rather than embrace it. We want to uphold the dignity of humanity and to encourage the avid pursuit of philosophy and the scientific enterprise. To disbelieve in the gods, as Emma Goldman wrote, is at the same time to affirm life, purpose, and beauty.

With over 6,000 documents and more than 190,000 unique visitors per month, the Secular Web is the largest and most heavily visited nontheistic web site on the Internet. Despite the sheer quantity of published articles on the Secular Web, we make a sincere effort to publish only the best. Many of the contemporary writers and supporters who have published on the Secular Web are distinguished scholars in their own discipline. If you are a writer or scholar, we very much want to publish your work on the Secular Web.

Although the Secular Web publishes from a nontheistic viewpoint, we publish or link to all known online rebuttals of our material in order to assist our readers in their search for the truth. We also maintain a feedback section where we publish messages we receive from readers, along with our responses. The Internet Infidels provide support and web-hosting for a number of freethought organizations and periodicals, including the following:

. . . American Humanist Association http://www.humanism.net/ ,

. . . The American Rationalist http://www.infidels.org/org/ar/ Critical examination of myths, dogmas and claims of all theologies; an antidote for mysticism, blind faith and irrationality. Guesswork, posing as religious truth, is everywhere but the opposition to authoritarian mysticism receives little publicity. The search for truth is a positive program. It clears the air for progress in all fields. Religious lies should be exposed.

The history of Western civilization shows us that most social and moral progress has been brought about by persons free from religion.

In modern times the first to speak out for prison reform, for humane treatment of the mentally ill, for abolition of capital punishment, for women's right to vote, for death with dignity for the terminally ill, and for the right to choose contraception, sterilization and abortion have been freethinkers, just as they were the first to call for an end to slavery.
